Blog #1

Hello to everyone in English 1020. My name is Mehtab and I was born and raised in London, Ontario, Canada. At the present time I live in Windsor, Ontario. I transferred into my junior year at Wayne last semester from a Canadian University near my home in Canada. My major is biology from which I will complete my degree next year and then apply to dental schools both in Canada and the United States.
I have two very loving parents and am the youngest and only girl out of two brothers. My background is of the East Indian origin and in less than a week I will be 21 years old. Growing up in a city of approximately 350,000 people I have come to appreciate the culture and joy that a small city provides. Such joys include the excitement of running into old friends and acquaintances from elementary school and high school. Also, since London has a large Indian population I have grown up learning about and experiencing the culture of my ancestors. By living nearby to Detroit I am looking forward to experiencing the excitement that a Metropolitan city can provide.
One of my favorite books that I have read in recent years is The Prophet, written by Kahlil Gibran. It is an intellectual book that provides enlightenment on day to day encounters. I feel it is a great book to read to bring your spirits up whenever you are feeling down. I enjoy listening to all genres of music, even country. My current favorite genre of music is Techno and House. I enjoy listening to the fast tempo of these genres while working out and while relaxing. I am looking forward to English 1020 and being able to incorporate past experiences into class discussion and into my essays.

This is a great area to live in if you're interested in techno and other electronic music.

Detroit is a fun city only if you know where to go, mostly bars and clubs. If you are not afraid exploring abandoned buildings is the best, just bring a knife or lead pipe and a flashlight and you will be fine.

The traffic has to be terrible getting from Canada to Detroit.

I heard that Canadian universities are twice as hard as U.S.. Is that why you transfered to Wayne State? I must say, Detroit definetely isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I actually really like it.

I wouldn't say I'm super over-protective because 3 of my sisters are older than me but now my younger sister is in her first year of high school and I try to be fair on her and not be so strict on her. But really you could say I just like to look after my sisters, make sure they don't get hurt or anything and that's all that matters to me, I don't tell them to do this and that.

It must be rough to have to cross the border everyday to get to school. I don't know if I could do that. Good luck in your biology.

Detroit has lots of fun places to be if you know where to look. I guess growing up in Detroit i would find other places to hang out, but in general Detroit is a good city.

That sound cool! You seem like a real laid back person. I've always wanted to live in Canada. It's so pretty over there! It kind of reminds me of TN. Medicine seems to be everyone's major. And Congraulations on alomst becoming 21! I can't wait!

I absolutely hate running into classmates from elementary and high school sometimes. I just don't be in the mood but in Detroit that rarely happens unless your at a big event.

How different are the schools in Canada from over here in the U.S.? I bet you'll have a great time in Detroit if you want.

Happy belated birthday to you! I just turned 20 yesterday. I feel like I'm getting old lol! So now, you're legal in both countries! Well, you are "mad close" to finishing your degree, so I'm quite sure that you'll be a dentist in no time! That's "mad hot!" I pray for the best for you!

I have to say that, coming from a town of 15,000 (on a good day), a city of 350,000 seems rather large to me . . .
